ANSWER FIRST
Size capacity and flow separately
A softener’s usable exchange capacity and its service-flow rating are different specifications. Hardness and water demand shape regeneration settings; simultaneous fixtures shape peak flow. Bathroom count is a starting question, not a complete sizing calculation.
For carbon filtration, ask how the proposed media volume and flow support the intended contact time. Include plumbing diameter, pressure loss and service access in the design. A provider should explain the assumptions in writing rather than choosing solely by tank height or a marketing package.
Three checks before the next step
- 01
Measure hardness and identify demand
- 02
Estimate simultaneous fixture flow
- 03
Check media, pressure loss and available space
